Planting seeds and watching them grow is a great way to get kids interested in food. It’s even better when they can eat what they’ve grown. If you keep the type of seeds a mystery, the only way they’ll find out what they’ve got is by planting them. Taking care of the plant can help them understand where their fruit and vegetables come from and encourage them to enjoy eating fruit and veg more.

Make sure that you use seeds of fruit and vegetables that are easily grown at home like: cherry tomatoes / bell peppers / beans / peas / small carrots and radishes.

How it works

  1. Decide what mystery seed to give your child. Why not give the seed a name?
  2. Help your child put some soil into a flower pot.
  3. Plant the seed in the soil.
  4. Place in sunlight and water regularly.
  5. Be patient! It may take a while for the plant to grow into a recognisable fruit or vegetable.
